On 20th November 1944, the crew of Wellington Bomber MF509 took off on a night time cross-country training exercise. During the mission the plane experienced engine troubles and as it descended over the mountains of the Brecon Beacons, the aircraft flew into the south-west slope of Garreg Goch. In all, six Royal Canadian Air Force crew members perished. As a tribute to the memory of those aircrew, a memorial was erected by local people and has since assumed a place of honour within the Brecon Beacons.  This small production tells the story of how, 60 years after that tragic event, the families of the crew were traced, leading to a poignant memorial service for the crew-members at the crash site.

Picture of an unknown airman found at the crash site. This was discovered amongst the wreckage of the aircraft in 1944 by 22 year old Eric Price.  It was from this picture that the families of the crew-members were eventually traced— 60 years later.
